Boren Awards Program Orientation and Convocation
Boren Awards Orientation and Convocation on June 5-6, 2017
Liaison Capitol Hill,
415 New Jersey Avenue
Washington, DC 20001
Purpose of Event
The orientation and convocation will recognize 2016 Boren Awards recipients, and includes an orientation on Fellowship & Scholarship requirements, a discussion of safety and security while overseas, and an opportunity to meet IIE and NSEP staff, as well as other Fellows and Scholars. Boren staff will also arrange congressional visits for Boren Scholars, providing the chance to meet with representatives and their staff. Please note, all orientation and convocation events are intended for Boren Awards recipients only. Parents and friends must not attend.
A Boren Forum dinner event is being offered on the evening of Sunday, June 4. This is not a mandatory event and has very limited spacing this year. The tickets for this dinner are purchased through EventBrite and you can reimburse yourself the cost of this ticket out of the $100 meals and ground transportation stipend that you will receive after the Convocation. If interested, please register for the Boren Forum dinner here.
Preparing for the Convocation
Before attending the Convocation, you are required to watch the film Game of Pawns and to read an NSA Guidelines to Security Clearances and the FBI Study Abroad Handbook and then verify that you have read this information by filling out this survey. Watching this film is essential to be adequately prepared for the session with the NSA and FBI.
Please remember that all events at the Boren Convocation are business casual. Jeans, t-shirts, any shirts with writing on them, and flip-flops would not be appropriate attire. Khakis, polos, blouses, slacks, dresses, skirts, and suits are all appropriate. Boren Scholars will be walking a lot on Tuesday, so please wear comfortable shoes. In addition, it might rain, so bring your umbrella just in case. If you have any questions or concerns about this, please email email@example.com.
Directions to the hotel from the three local airports and train station can be found in the above Location/Directions tab.
Scholars and Fellows are responsible for arranging their own travel on the IIE online booking system and are expected to choose the least expensive airplane ticket from their location to DC. Further travel information will be sent to you once you register.
IIE is arranging for hotel accommodations for those who need them. Please indicate on the RSVP form if you will need overnight accommodations for the evening of June 4 and 5. Only in rare instances will hotel accommodations be made for the night of June 6 and you must have prior approval from IIE.
Please check back to this webpage as things may be updated periodically.
A member of the Boren staff will be checking the Boren email the weekend before the event. If you need to contact us due to a last minute change during the weekend, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org, as no one will be available to answer calls in the office.
