On-Campus Scholarship Deadline

The National and International Scholarships Program at Illinois is glad to see of your interest in the National Security Education Program Boren Scholarship. The required campus application deadline is 12:00 noon on January 17, 2017 for any study between May 2017 and May 2018. However, please note that you are encouraged to submit materials by our January 3 priority deadline for additional review. We are happy to review your application and provide feedback even before the priority deadline. On-Campus Fellowship Deadline:

Boren Information Session: Wed., Nov. 2, 2016, 3:00 PM, Coble Hall - Room 308
The Graduate College's Office of External Fellowships (OEF) at the University of Illinois will hold an information session on the Boren Fellowship program. Topics covered: General information on the Boren and program priorities; elements of the application process; suggestions for developing a competitive application; and services and resources offered by OEF to Boren applicants. Please go to the website (above) to register for the workshop.

Early review deadline: Wed., Dec. 1, 2016
The Office of External Fellowships is available to conduct a comprehensive review of students' application materials. For an early review, send drafts of the essays and budget to Applicants are strongly encouraged to have their advisor review their materials before seeking the early review.

Campus deadline: Mon., Jan. 9, 2017
A complete Boren application must be submitted by this deadline to be considered for the fellowship. Following submission, the Office of External Fellowships will conduct an interview with each applicant and then prepare an institutional endorsement to be submitted to NSEP.  The interview committee will also give feedback to the applicant on how the application materials may be strengthened. Applicants have until the final submission deadline on 1/31/17, 5 p.m. EST to further revise and submit their materials.
