Awards for the 2010-2011 Boren Scholarship and Fellowship competitions were made in May. For the second consecutive year, we received a record number of applications for both the undergraduate Boren Scholarship and the graduate Boren Fellowship. This year, 925 undergraduate students applied for the Boren Scholarship and 138 were awarded, while 519 graduate students applied for the Boren Fellowship and 99 were awarded.

Thank you to all campus representatives who responded to our survey in April. We received many great suggestions and helpful comments. In addition, we learned that there are some misconceptions and misunderstandings about the Boren program. In the future, we will use this newsletter to eliminate confusion on these matters and address some Boren “myths.”

As a Boren Campus Representative, you can log into http://www.borenawards.org/ to enter campus-specific information such as campus deadlines, events, and news stories. In 2009-2010 approximately 15 percent of you took advantage of this opportunity, and we hope to greatly increase the percentage this year.
