David L. Boren Awards for International Study

The Boren Scholarship for foreign language study is a highly competitive but very worthwhile grant that allows students to study for up to a year at a foreign university. Interested students should go to the Boren Scholarship site on-line and investigatge the requirements to see if they are eligible.  In addition, the Boren administrators strongly advise that students get help from the campus representative at Western.  This person is Dr. Thomas Moore (#4074, College Hall 05, Tom.Moore@wwu.edu). 

The process continues with the on-line submission of the candidate's application, after which it is reviewed by the campus representative.  The applicant should have his/her application submitted by January 10th.   On or about January 21st the canidates will be interviewed by the Boren Campus Committee, which make recommendations to the candidates on how their applicantions can be improved.   As noted above, all applications must be officially sumbitted by February 9, 2012.

Another Western Student Wins A Boren Scholarship, 2011-2012

Jeff Hales, a junior at Western Washington University is currently living and studying in Japan as a Boren Scholarship recipient.  Since the Boren Awards began offering awards, five students from Western Washington University have received awards.  Jeff, who is earning a major in international business, is spending the academic year at Akita International University in northern Japan.
